Atlassian Analytics: A New Foundation for Data-driven Decisions - News, tips & guidance for agile, development, Atlassian-Software (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, ...) and Google Cloud

For countless software, IT, and business teams in tens of thousands of companies, Atlassian products are virtually essential for survival. But of course, they're not the only tools these teams use. All of these systems produce vast amounts of data - and organizations need ways to generate the right insights from that data to serve as the basis for good decisions.

To support data-driven decision-making, Atlassian introduced a feature set called Atlassian Analytics last year, which has now outgrown the beta stage. After incorporating feedback from hundreds of early adopter customers, Atlassian Analytics is now available in Cloud enterprise plans for Jira Software, Jira Service Management, and Confluence.

The Atlassian Data Lake provides a "center of truth" for Atlassian data from software, business, and IT workflows.
More than 20 dashboard templates are included, such as flow metrics, content adoption, developer productivity, etc.
Atlassian Analytics offers flexible low-code/no-code resources with visual modes and chart templates.
The toolset brings connectors for Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, and other databases so teams can integrate their external data.
Easy-to-use features such as advanced chart control, querying options, permission configurations, and the new share feature are natively implemented.

How teams can use Atlassian Analytics

Atlassian Analytics aims to support a better understanding of the workflows between development, IT, and business processes:

Development leaders can take different perspectives thanks to detailed dashboards for metrics such as lead time, cycle time, and throughput. This allows them to optimize the Velocity of the engineering team, increase quality and identify issues that need attention.
IT and support teams can proactively identify and remove bottlenecks by adapting the included dashboards to their use cases in Request, Incident, and Service Performance Management.
Business teams have the ability to optimize spending and efficiency across programs by mapping the impact of marketing activities on, for example, sales pipeline and spending efficiency.

Understanding performance and health across the engineering organization

Data does not equal insights. That's why Atlassian is including new dashboards with prescriptive scorecards that give engineering leaders more visibility into flow metrics - from the team to the organizational level. Insights on velocity and performance can be individualized to reflect the organization's unique ways of working.

In Jira, teams can already track metrics at the team level. With Atlassian Analytics, it is now possible to build reports spanning multiple Jira projects or instances, thereby providing key metrics on flow efficiency, lead time, cycle time, and more.

In the coming months, Atlassian will work to implement additional DevOps toolchain linkages - including data from external tools in SCM, CI/CD, feature flagging, and DevSecOps. This enables reporting by DORA metrics and opens up options to dig deeper into individual reports on health and performance across teams.

Access to more data from the DevOps toolchain helps development leaders identify challenges, improve velocity, deliver more value, and make better decisions.

Valuable insights for IT and support teams

Traditional ITSM tools provide IT teams with only half the picture. Atlassian Analytics completes it by combining data from Dev and Ops tools. This gives the team richer insights as a basis for better change and incident decisions. And now, service owners can see all their service-related data on one dashboard.

Database connections to AWS and Snowflake make understanding the true cost of service deliveries much easier. Support teams can also create specific views showing agent utilization, resolution times, customer satisfaction, and SLA performance. I&O leaders also have the ability to put their fingers on the pulse of business services at all times with overall performance dashboards.

The impact of marketing programs on pipelines and spending

Atlassian Analytics allows project data from Jira Work Management, Jira Software, and Jira Service Management to be merged into a holistic program dashboard to provide insights on marketing effectiveness. The team can leverage connectors for commonly used databases such as Snowflake to link these programs to pipeline and spend information.

Marketing leaders can see which pipeline-generating projects are completed, in progress, and at risk, while having a direct view of the pipeline costs of those at-risk projects.

When Confluence data is included in the data lake, Confluence admins can also track key metrics to understand area and page usage.

Atlassian Analytics is now available

The general availability of Atlassian Analytics with Atlassian Data Lake is a step toward fully unlocking the value that data holds in Atlassian products. The feature set is now fully available natively to enterprise customers of Atlassian Cloud products.
