The Support for Atlassian Server is Ending - Why it's High Time to Migrate to the Atlassian Cloud - banner

First announced over three years ago, support for Atlassian’s server products ended on February 15, 2024. This marks the end of a 20-year era! The first version of Jira Server was released in 2002 and the first Confluence Server version was released in 2004.

What Exactly Does This Mean for Atlassian Server Customers?

Are you still an Atlassian Server customer and wondering whether you can continue to use the products despite support from Atlassian ending? We strongly advise against this, because: Atlassian and Marketplace partners will not provide technical support after 00:00 (PST) on February 15, 2024. For Atlassian server products and apps, you won’t have:

  • Technical support,
  • Security updates, or
  • Bug fixes for critical vulnerabilities.

Stopping these services comes with risks, such as leaving your systems open to threats or vulnerabilities. In addition, server products will not be further developed, denying your teams the opportunity to work together more efficiently thanks to improved software or new features.

All Signs Point to the Atlassian Cloud

Under these conditions, you should turn your back on Atlassian Server as soon as possible. Although there are theoretically two options you can now switch to, the Atlassian Cloud or the Atlassian Data Center - we recommend that you migrate to the Cloud.

Why? There Are Several Good Reasons:

  • No manual upgrades and software maintenance work.
  • Security updates in real time.
  • Lower costs for operation, IT, maintenance and hardware.
  • Security, data protection, compliance and reliability are all included. You can work in globally distributed teams with products that you can access securely via all browsers and mobile apps without a VPN.
  • More agility and room for innovation, as Atlassian invests the most in Cloud research and development.
  • Flexible tariffs for all team sizes and budget cycles (Free until Enterprise).

Have you migrated to Data Center as part of the support phase-out for Atlassian Server, but now would like to find out about the advantages of the Cloud compared to the on-premises version? Then take a closer look at this website, where Atlassian compares the functions and conditions of the Cloud and Data Center.
