European Conscious Capitalism Conference on September 23 in Berlin: New ways to do business

Why I'm so fascinated by Conscious Capitalism

Conscious Capitalism is a concept around the social responsibility held by enterprises. I first stumbled across it in the book of the same name by John Mackey and Raj Sisodia and I've not been able to get it out of my head since.

The term isn't very well known here in Germany. However, an (as yet) small but very committed community is working on increasing its prominence here too.

Conscious Capitalism is based on a philosophy of business ethics that lays the foundation for a modern and sustainable form of corporate leadership. This concept starts where "New Work" often ends: While "New Work" focuses on trust, creating an equal footing, and respectful, independent, autonomous team collaboration, Conscious Capitalism goes a step further towards a holistic approach, which attempts to integrate personal, cultural, economical, and ecological values in equal measure.

While most companies ultimately view "New Work" as a tool to increase productivity among their staff, Conscious Capitalism is an approach to steer companies uncompromisingly towards sustainability. In their book, John Mackey and Raj Sisodia outline methods that upon first glance may seem nice but expensive; however, upon closer examination, they can lead to fundamental change and at the same time make economic sense and prove to be in the interest of corporate social responsibility.

Anyone who is interested in themes surrounding leadership, management, and enterprise organization should definitely take a closer look at this concept! You'll have an excellent opportunity to do so this fall.

Second European Conscious Capitalism Conference

I was really excited to receive the invitation to the second European Conscious Capitalism Conference in Berlin on 23 September  2019.

This event, organized by the Conscious Capitalism Community, is the largest of its kind in Europe and a hub for all those who appreciate the significance of a "higher purpose" in business. The conference was conceived to provide a forum for an open exchange on the challenges of the business world and present plenty of inspiring examples of the win-win-win effect of Conscious Capitalism in practice.

I was particularly delighted to read that John Mackey and Raj Sisodia – the creators and pioneers behind the Conscious Capitalism movement – are going to be in Berlin too, as speakers and for networking.

The rest of the program also promises an event with excellent content and exciting testimonials about the path to improved consciousness in business. Here's an overview of the speakers.

In addition, there'll be an extensive accompanying program with workshops and opportunities to interact with others, deepen your knowledge,  exchange experiences with other attendees, and get feedback on your own efforts to promote a modern, conscious form of enterprise organization.

Building a regional community

When I shared the event announcement on our intranet, many of my colleagues were interested right away. Perhaps my enthusiasm is infectious 😀

The free spots included in a partner ticket were reserved within a few minutes. So just ten of us will be traveling to Berlin in September to gain new experiences and broaden our knowledge.

Will I see you there? Or perhaps you can't make it to the conference but would still like to exchange your thoughts on Conscious Capitalism with others who are also interested? I would love to meet others who find this approach as inspiring as I do and are perhaps interested in collaborating to build up a region community.

I would certainly be prepared to invest some time and energy into organizing events with talks and discussion panels, carrying out webinars, and participate in a collaborative blog series, to name a few examples. Feel free to get in touch with me if you could imagine doing something similar!

I hope to see you on September 23 at the second European Conscious Capitalism Conference in Berlin – I'm sure it'll be worth the trip!
