Early encouragement awakens interest and enthusiasm
Programmers define our modern world with their work. These days, employers are wringing their hands in the search for competent developers and it is foreseeable that in the coming years and decades the demand for these experts will keep rising. We too, as software providers, are reliant upon the aptitude of our employees.
Sadly, software developers don’t grow on trees. If we need more and more programmers, then the we need to give more and more encouragement so that people enter the profession. Sometimes it seems like programmers are doing magical things, but it isn’t witchcraft. It can be learnt. That’s what this article is about.
With programmieren.de (in German), we invite children and young adults into our Wiesbaden office for 14 days and teach them how to code in a modular course. The young ones are thrilled by the things they get to build, and we’re thrilled by them - their thirst for knowledge, their concentration and their visible joy. It’s brilliant!
Of course, these budding programmers are usually comfortable with computers when they come to us. Who knows where undiscovered talent might be hiding?
Installing new notebooks for the students and teachers
Children should be brought into contact with computers (and WhatsApp and YouTube too) as early on as possible so they can become interested in and excited about technology. In reality, this task is often left to the students alone – but worryingly, not all of them are equipped with the resources for it.
We often work together with Rudolf-Dietz Elementary School (in German) in Wiesbaden/Naurod. For example, we’ve given classroom lessons in the style of programmieren.de there.
And we are delighted to have been able to donate some computers to Rudolf-Dietz Elementary. Now the students and teachers have the inspiration of brand-new notebooks at their fingertips.
“Now we have our very own computer room!”
