Microblogging for Confluence is now responsive

In an increasing number of businesses and teams, Confluence microblogs are becoming an important and invaluable additional channel of communication. The microblog is the place where staff ask for quick feedback on ideas, share interesting links and announcements, discuss projects, organizational topics, improvements and much more.

Microblogging for Confluence is a solution we developed which adds social media features to Atlassian’s collaboration system. It’s an additional, streamlined and effective way to exchange ideas within and beyond a team.

Our development team recently released version 3.4 after running extensive user experience tests.

Clear presentation - independent from resolution and page layout

Responsive pages on the web and in web-based applications has been of central importance for quite a while now. Employees sit in offices equipped with large monitors, some have their laptops, or a smaller netbook in front of them, some use their tablets to work while in transit – and naturally all devices have different resolutions.

With Confluence the structure, appearance and formatting of content does not vary from page to page. A small documentation page comes across as clear and uncluttered, while a comprehensive team portal is typically organised in a number of columns packed full of content, functions and widgets.

And as always, everything these days needs to take modern technology into account, and an integrated microblog ought to look good wherever it is used. That’s the case now: Microblogging for Confluence is now responsive and in granular steps, customizes itself automatically to the most varied of resolutions and environments. In page layouts with three or more columns, including on small mobile devices, microblogs are presented accurately and with the essential information – up to a minimum width of 200 pixels (though we do recommend a minimum of 300 pixels). That way the extended functions stay consistently accessible at any resolution, on any device.

The following animation shows an integrated microblog and its automatic customization into various column layouts:

This it what it's all about: the content. On every display, at every resolution, the microblog is tidy and focused and, most importantly, easily readable.

Smooth integration into themes

For many organisations, the functional and visual options of standard Confluence themes aren't good enough. To customize Confluence to match the corporate design of your business and to increase options for customization, you can use external solutions in the form of apps – for example, the Linchpin Theme Plugin.

With this new release, Microblogging for Confluence is now also fully compatible with theme apps by other Atlassian Marketplace providers such as Refined Wiki and Bitvoodoo Enterprise Theme. This means microblogs can now be seamlessly integrated into any desired Confluence theme.
