Tools4AgileTeams 2022 – How SAFe is Modernizing Agile Learning

CFO to CEO: "what if we train people and they decide to leave" CEO to CFO "what if we don't and they decide to stay"

And that's the thing, failure to train staff is planning for failure. Successful businesses know that investing in staff training is just as important as investing in capital plant and infrastructure. Technology is changing at an ever-increasing pace, and for a business to be successful, staff must keep pace with new and emerging technologies.

Tools4AgileTeams 2022 - How SAFe is Modernizing Agile Learning - Confucius qote "I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand"

Studies have shown we forget 70% of what we learned within 24 hours

So how can companies up their training game? This presentation Deema Dajani gave at the Tools4AgileTeams conference in December 2022 takes a fresh look at staff development and highlights some alarming statistics regarding conventional training.
How do we learn? There has been a multitude of studies, all essentially agreeing on how little of what we study or cram in decides to reside in our brains full-time. Until Tesla rolls out a brain chip, we are stuck with this alarming 70% statistic. Enter SAFe and Agile into the sphere of staff development.

See one, do one, teach one

It's sobering to think that the above quote is a long-standing phrase taken from the medical profession. And it works. This methodology of immediately watching and then doing in real work scenarios flies in the face of conventional wisdom, which preaches that continued study and exams are the way to go.

In this presentation, Deema demonstrates that we already have a very powerful tool in Agile and SAFe that mimics the above philosophy. But how do you implement SAFe in staff training? Deema explains what we should ditch and what we should hold on to.

What is Social Learning?

Social Learning, what at first glance appears to be a new buzzword, has, in fact, its roots firmly established in successful training methodologies. This T4AT video presentation dives into Social Learning. Classrooms work, but not for the reasons you might initially think. Deema shows us how to drive SAFe from its core purpose of project management to that of staff development that delivers results.

So sit back and prepare to be educated by Deema. Learning does not have to be lethargic. It can be fun.
