More Information

What is the criteria for apps to get the Runs on Atlassian badge?

For apps to qualify for the Runs on Atlassian badge they have to

  • Be a Cloud app

  • Be hosted on the Atlassian infrastructure (Forge platform)

  • Contain data within the Atlassian infrastructure, unless an exception is made by the customer

  • Give customers control of data egress (which they can fully block at any time)

  • Offer data residency in the same regions as the host product

If any of those elements change, for example a new feature brings data egress, the app will automatically lose the Runs on Atlassian badge.

While these features might be exactly what you are looking for, keep in mind too that there are completely legitimate reasons for an app to use features or services that disqualify the app from the badge. For example apps that can communicate with external servers through APIs like web-triggers might offer exactly the functionality you need, but disqualify them from Runs on Atlassian.

What are the advantages of apps with the Runs on Atlassian badge?

There are 3 big reasons you might care a lot about the badge:

Data control

Does data egress keep you up at night? How critical is your stack’s infrastructure? Do you work in a sensitive industry where connecting to external domains is risky? Apps with the badge use Forge storage, so everything stays on Atlassian infrastructure, and egress permissions keep you in control of your data.

Streamlined procurement

You don’t have to do individual assessments for each app you want to add because you’ve already vetted Atlassian products. Plus you know the apps are hosted in the same country as your main product because Atlassian is hosting the app at the same time.

Validated by Atlassian

How trustworthy is self-declared privacy & security measures? what happens if changes to the app are released? Atlassian runs automatic checks so the Runs on Atlassian badge only appears if the app still meets the criteria.

In a nutshell, Runs on Atlassian makes adding additional functionality through apps a 2 minute task, instead of 2 weeks. You can say goodbye to sending out assessment forms and get back to business.

How do you find apps that qualify for Runs on Atlassian?

On the Marketplace, apps will have a badge that looks like this:

You’ll also be able to filter search results with the Runs on Atlassian criteria.

You can already check which apps qualify with the Seibert Forge directory at Forge-apps.com This website includes additional information about apps that are partially on Atlassian infrastructure (Forge framework) and includes details about why an app may not qualify for Runs on Atlassian. For example, you can see that Mantra data egress mostly relates to social media websites since the social intranet app offers integrations with those platforms.

Is Runs on Atlassian replacing Cloud Fortified?

No, the Cloud Fortified badge isn’t going away. Runs on Atlassian is complimentary.

Cloud Fortified remains an important signal that an app vendor is committed to timely support, reliability, and participates in bug bounty. That’s why nearly all Seibert Cloud apps are Cloud Fortified.

The two badges are not mutually exclusive, meaning an app might have one or the other, or both.
