Enterprises worldwide are moving from Atlassian Data Center to Confluence Cloud — and with that shift comes the opportunity to rethink your app stack. If your team has been relying on the Refined Macro Toolkit, the migration to Cloud is the ideal moment to consolidate and upgrade to Aura Formatting. With the Aura Migration Hub, you can transfer all content from the Cloud version of Refined Macro Toolkit to Aura Formatting – preserving your data while unlocking a modern, unified content experience.

Understanding the Two-Step Migration Path

A direct migration from Refined Macro Toolkit on Data Center to Aura Formatting is not possible in a single step. The process requires two stages:

Step 1 – Data Center to Cloud (same app): First, migrate your existing Refined Macro Toolkit from Data Center to its Cloud version using the Atlassian Cloud Migration Assistant.

Step 2 – Cloud to Cloud (app consolidation): Once Refined Macro Toolkit is running in Confluence Cloud, use the Aura Migration Hub to convert all Refined macros to Aura Formatting.

The Aura Migration Hub handles Step 2 only and operates exclusively as a Cloud-to-Cloud tool.

How to Migrate from Refined Macro Toolkit to Aura Formatting in 8 Steps

Once your Data Center to Cloud migration is complete and Refined Macro Toolkit is running in Confluence Cloud, follow these steps to consolidate to Aura Formatting:

Step 1: Launch the Aura Migration Hub

Open Confluence Administration → Apps → Aura Migration Hub. This is your central entry point for all supported macro migrations.

Step 2: Select the Refined Macro Toolkit Tile

Click the Refined Macro Toolkit tile to open the dedicated migration view. Here you’ll see all Refined macros eligible for conversion to Aura Formatting.

Step 3: Define Your Migration Scope

Choose whether to migrate selected spaces or all spaces in your instance. For your first migration, we recommend starting with a single test space to validate the workflow.

Step 4: Run a Dry Run First

Before executing the actual migration, select Dry Run. This simulates the entire process without modifying any pages and generates preview logs so you can verify the expected outcome.

Step 5: Review the Page Analysis

The Migration Hub automatically displays how many pages contain Refined macros. Review the results and select the specific macros you want to migrate – or migrate everything at once.

Step 6: Confirm Terms and Technical Guardrails

Read the migration documentation and confirm the terms of use. These describe how the conversion works and what to consider before starting.

Step 7: Start the Migration

Click Start migration. Aura handles the conversion automatically and creates new page versions, so you can always revert if needed.

Step 8: Audit Your Migration Logs

Once the migration completes, download the logs to review any warnings or errors. The logs detail what was migrated, where macros were found, and whether manual follow-up is required. You can repeat the process at any time – for example, after content updates or when additional spaces are ready.

Beyond Formatting: Consolidate Your Entire Confluence App Stack

The move from Data Center to Cloud is also the right time to evaluate your wider app ecosystem. As an Atlassian Platinum Solution Partner, we help enterprises go beyond a simple data transfer:

  • Marketplace Optimization Audit: We analyze your current app stack and identify savings by replacing redundant legacy apps with the Aura Apps Suite.
  • Workflow Consolidation: Many teams use this transition to move document lifecycles and approvals from tools like AppFox Workflows, Appfire Page Approval, or Comala Document Management into Aura Workflow — creating a unified compliance ecosystem. These workflow migrations are also Cloud-to-Cloud and happen after your initial DC-to-Cloud migration.
  • Data Table Migration: If your pages use complex data tables from Stiltsoft Table Filter, we can migrate them to Aura Table Filter — preserving functionality while adding integrated charting capabilities.
