Dreaming of powerful custom fields for Jira and JSM that keep your information securely within the Atlassian ecosystem? Many of us are! It’s good news then that Awesome Custom Fields receives the “Runs on Atlassian” badge.

Runs on Atlassian: A Quick Overview

You may have heard about Atlassian’s new certification for applications that meet their highest privacy and security standards—Runs on Atlassian. This makes integrating new applications into your system more straightforward by highlighting Cloud-based apps that are entirely constructed on Atlassian’s infrastructure (Forge), thereby offering maximum control over data egress and data residency.

Awesome Custom Fields Earns the Runs on Atlassian Badge

Awesome Custom Fields (ACF) is a Jira application designed to help teams understand issue details at a glance—all without any data leaving Atlassian. ACF expands Jira’s capabilities with over 20 distinct custom field types, perfect for tasks like prioritization, estimations, calculations, and tracking progress. The application works seamlessly with both Jira Cloud and Jira Service Management.

Awesome Custom Fields gives your Jira work items superpowers—while keeping your data within Atlassian.

Previously, ACF was already designed to your data within Atlassian. The single exception was our Cascading Select field, which facilitates multi-level choices for more complex workflows and had its own Cascading Select Options API. In the past, if this API was activated, some data could potentially exit the Atlassian platform (data egress). We have now updated this component to ensure that no data departs Jira—even when the API is enabled. Consequently, the application now fulfills Atlassian’s “Runs on Atlassian” criteria, providing you with confidence that your crucial data remains secure within Atlassian by default.

What’s Next

One of the advantages of the “Runs on Atlassian” program is that it holds apps to a consistently high security standard—even as they evolve. Should a future update compromises compliance, the app will lose its badge, meaning you can trust that ACF will continue to meet Atlassian’s requirements for security, data residency, and data egress. This also simplifies the procurement process—if your organization already has confidence in Atlassian’s Cloud platform, adopting a “Runs on Atlassian” application is easy.

P.S. If you’re interested in exploring other Atlassian Marketplace applications from a security perspective, I recommend checking out forge-apps.com (developed by Seibert) for a useful list. It shows all applications in the marketplace, clearly distinguishing between egress and non-egress apps—an excellent resource when evaluating potential solutions.
